TAYLOR LOCK COMPANY - HISTORY

A BRIEF HISTORY OF TAYLOR LOCK DESIGNS

 

Jack Taylor joined H & T Vaughan in 1925, which was later taken over by Yale & Towne. Jack became their chief Designer and was in charge of cylinder lock production.

During World War II he was drafted by Lord Beaverbrook to Ingersoll Manufacturing in London to solve design problems for glider tow lines, gun barrel mountings and torpedo drum control units.

After the war Ingersoll Locks was formed and Jack became a Director. He designed a ten lever key mechanism and associated locks for the domestic and commercial market.

In 1956 Taylor Lock Company was formed. The main purpose was design and speciality production i.e. Parking Meter locks, a range of six lever mortice locks, window locks and several other notable inventions. Jack re-designed the Bramah lock to suit modern day production.

In 1964 Andrew joined his Father and Evelyn in Taylor Lock Company when Locksmithing, Installation and Key cutting were added to the activities of the company as well as retaining design and manufacture.

Taylor Lock Company was eventually "sold" in 1997 then in 1999 Locks Services Limited was formed by Evelyn and Andrew.

The main focus being design and specialty lock manufacture as well as the day to day Locksmithing, installation and key cutting service.

In 2004 Taylor Lock Technology Limited was formed at which time Paul French joined Evelyn and Andrew.

In 2005 Taylor Lock Company Ltd was formed predominantly for the promotion of hi-tech inventions for locks and associated electronic technology.
